Our Offices

Attic Star in the North Bay, San Francisco & Oakland

Attic Star has two offices in central Marin, one at Larkspur Landing and one on Tamal Vista Boulevard in Corte Madera. From there our crews cover Marin County and the rest of the North Bay, and cross the Golden Gate and Richmond-San Rafael bridges for jobs in San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley.

Rodents are the most common reason for a call in this area. Marin's canyons and hillsides put homes right next to oak, bay laurel and redwood, and roof rats travel along branches, ivy and fences straight onto the roofline. In San Francisco and Oakland, older homes with open foundation vents and gaps around pipes give rats and mice an easy way into the crawl space and walls.

The housing stock here is some of the oldest in the Bay Area. There are Victorian and Edwardian homes in San Francisco, brown-shingle and Craftsman houses in Berkeley and Oakland, and older cottages and hillside homes in Mill Valley, San Anselmo and Fairfax. Many were built before insulation was standard, and their crawl spaces and attics have often been reworked several times. We inspect what's actually there before recommending anything.

Marin County

Wooded lots, hillside foundations and homes built from the early 1900s on make rodent proofing and crawl space work a large share of what we do in Marin. Many homes here sit close to wildland, which is also worth keeping in mind when choosing insulation and vent screening.

Sonoma, Napa & Southern Solano

Homes near vineyards, orchards and open fields see field mice and rats moving in when the rains start. Parts of Santa Rosa, including Fountaingrove and Coffey Park, were rebuilt after the 2017 Tubbs Fire, while Petaluma, Napa, Sonoma and Vallejo have many older homes with crawl spaces.

San Francisco

Much of San Francisco was built before insulation was standard. Victorian and Edwardian flats often have uninsulated walls and small attics, and the 1920s to 1940s homes in the Sunset and the Richmond sit over garages and crawl spaces that let fog-driven dampness and rodents in.

  • San Francisco · the Sunset, the Richmond, Noe Valley, Bernal Heights, Glen Park, West Portal, St. Francis Wood, Miraloma Park, Excelsior, Portola, Bayview, Cole Valley, Pacific Heights, the Marina, Potrero Hill

Oakland, Berkeley & the Inner East Bay

Craftsman bungalows and brown-shingle homes from the early 1900s sit on raised foundations with crawl spaces across Oakland, Berkeley, Albany and El Cerrito. Homes in the Oakland and Berkeley hills have steep, hard-to-reach crawl spaces and close contact with trees and wildlife.

Common Questions

FAQ

Which office serves San Francisco and Oakland? +

Our North Bay team, working out of Larkspur and Corte Madera, covers Marin, Sonoma and Napa, San Francisco, and Oakland, Berkeley and the inner East Bay. The same number, (800) 444-8180, reaches every office.

Why do so many Marin homes get roof rats? +

Roof rats are climbers. Dense oak, bay and redwood canopy, ivy-covered fences and fruit trees give them a path straight to the roofline, where vents and gaps let them into the attic. Lasting control means removing the rodents, sealing those entry points and trimming back the routes they use.

Can you insulate an older San Francisco or Berkeley home? +

Usually, yes. The options depend on how the house is built: open attics and raised floors are straightforward, while closed walls in older homes need a different approach. We'll show you what's practical for your home during the free inspection.
