Request Free InspectionHeat waves are reaching further into the Bay Area, and many homes here were built without air conditioning. These are the signs it's time to add or replace it.

A new air conditioner is only as good as its installation. We size it to your home, match it to your ductwork, and make sure the air it cools actually reaches your rooms.

Choosing an air conditioner starts with your home's layout. If you already have ducts for a forced-air furnace, central AC or a ducted heat pump can usually connect to them. If you don't — or you only need to cool a few rooms, an addition, or a converted garage — a ductless mini-split delivers efficient, zoned cooling without running new ductwork.
Sizing matters more than most homeowners realize. An oversized system cools the air quickly but shuts off before it removes humidity, leaving rooms cold and clammy while it cycles hard enough to shorten its life. An undersized system runs all afternoon and still loses ground on the hottest days. We size every system to your home's actual cooling load — square footage, insulation, windows, and sun exposure.
Your attic is part of the equation. On a hot afternoon, an attic can get far hotter than the air outside, and every duct running through it absorbs that heat before the air reaches your rooms. Because insulation and ductwork are core Attic Star services, we can make sure the cool air your new system produces actually arrives where you want it.
Many Bay Area homeowners now choose a heat pump instead of a cooling-only air conditioner. It cools just as effectively in summer, runs in reverse to heat your home in winter, and can replace an aging gas furnace in the same project. We'll walk you through both options side by side.
Since 2023, new air conditioners and heat pumps have been rated in SEER2, a federal test standard designed to better reflect real-world conditions. Higher numbers mean less electricity per unit of cooling; higher-rated equipment costs more up front but less to run every summer.
New systems use lower–global warming refrigerants such as R-454B and R-32 under federal rules that took effect in 2025. Older systems that use R-22 can still be serviced, but that refrigerant is no longer produced, so major repairs on those systems keep getting more expensive.
Utility and state programs sometimes offer rebates for high-efficiency heat pumps and related upgrades. Programs change often, so check current offers from your utility and local energy programs before you buy.
We assess your home, ductwork, and electrical capacity, and talk through your cooling goals.
We size the system and compare central, ductless, and heat pump options with clear pricing.
We install the equipment, refrigerant lines, and controls, sealing duct connections along the way.
We verify cooling output and airflow, then show you how to get the most from your new system.
Most projects involve more than one service. These are the ones our Bay Area crews pair with this work most often:
Every air conditioning installation is backed by our satisfaction guarantee. Get a free in-home estimate and a clear quote — equipment, labor, and any duct work included — before anything begins.
Cost depends on the size of your home and the scope of the work. We provide a free, no-obligation inspection and give you an exact quote before anything begins — no surprises.
Most jobs are completed in a single day. Larger or more involved projects may take longer, which we'll confirm during your free inspection.
You don't need to stay in the work area itself, but we do ask that someone is available at the start and end of the appointment. Our crew works cleanly and keeps you updated throughout.
Yes — Attic Star is fully licensed, bonded, and insured, and has served Bay Area homeowners for over 25 years.
Central AC uses your home's ductwork to cool every room from one system. A ductless mini-split mounts compact indoor units on the wall, each controlled separately, and needs no ducts — ideal for homes without ductwork, additions, or rooms that run hotter than the rest.
Usually, yes. If your furnace's ductwork is in good shape and sized for cooling airflow, we can add central AC or a heat pump that works with it. We'll check the ducts and your electrical capacity during the free estimate.
In much of the Bay Area, it's worth a serious look. A heat pump costs a bit more than a cooling-only unit but replaces both your AC and furnace heating, which can pay off if your furnace is aging too.
Most central air conditioners and heat pumps last around 12 to 15 years with regular maintenance. Annual service, clean filters, and clear space around the outdoor unit help it reach the long end of that range.
